Instructions:

  1. In a 5-qt. slow cooker, combine beef, onion, and garlic. Add the tomatoes, broth, salt, pepper, thyme, and paprika. Stir in the carrots, celery, and bay leaf.
  2. Cover and cook on low for 8-9 hours or until beef is tender. Discard bay leaf.
  3. In a small bowl, combine cornstarch and cold water until smooth. Stir into stew.
  4. Cover and cook on high for 30 minutes or until thickened. Serve with hot crusty bread or over a bed of steaming rice.

  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Hot cooked linguine

  1. In a large skillet, cook bacon until crisp. Remove bacon with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  2. In the same skillet, sauté onion, mushrooms, green pepper, and celery until tender. Stir in the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, wine or broth, salt, sugar, rosemary, pepper, and garlic powder.
  3. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 30 minutes or until sauce is thickened. Stir in reserved bacon.
  4. Serve over linguine. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.
