Starting at 4-5 Months
Your little one is now ready to start experiencing solid food. Keep in mind that during this stage, babies do not actually need to be able to consume a lot of food but rather just need to learn how to swallow. Start slowly, and gradually build up to more solid feeds as your baby gets older.
Recipe: Apple and Carrot Puree
Here is a recipe for a delicious and easy puree that is perfect for introducing your baby to solids.
Ingredients:
- 1 apple
- 1 carrot
- 1/2 cup of water
Instructions:
- Peel and chop the apple and carrot into small pieces
- Put the chopped fruit and veggie into a small pot with half a cup of water
- Cover the pot and cook on medium heat for 10-15 minutes
- Check that the apple and carrot are soft enough to blend into a puree
- Blend the mixture into a smooth puree either using a blender, food processor or immersion blender

At this stage, your baby will start to need solid foods for nutritional purposes. Introduce new flavors, textures and even some table foods. Always make sure the food is well cooked, and easy for your baby to swallow.

- 1 sweet potato
- 1 broccoli floret
- 1 small boneless chicken breast or 2 chicken thighs
- 1/2 cup of water
Instructions:
- Cut the sweet potato in small pieces that can be easily cooked
- Cut the chicken into small pieces as well
- Cut the broccoli floret into small pieces
- Put all the ingredients into a pot and add 1/2 cup of water
- Cook on medium heat for 10-15 minutes or until all ingredients are soft and cooked
