Feeding Schedule
One of the biggest challenges of being a new parent is figuring out the feeding schedule for your little one. At first, babies need to be fed around the clock, but as they grow, the frequency of feedings will decrease. Here's a rough guide to help you organize your feeding schedule for babies and toddlers:
0-6 Months
- Breastfeeding every 2-3 hours or as needed (on-demand feeding)
- Formula-fed babies should be fed every 3-4 hours or as needed
6-12 Months
- Breastfeeding or formula every 4 hours
- Introduce solids at around 6 months (start with pureed fruits and vegetables)
- Offer water in a sippy cup or small glass throughout the day
12-24 Months
- 3 meals a day with snacks in between
- Offer a variety of foods from each food group (fruits, vegetables, protein, dairy, grains)
- Continue breastfeeding or formula as needed
Sleep Schedule
As much as we love spending time with our little ones, we also need to make sure they get enough sleep to support their growth and development. Here's a rough guide to help you organize your baby's sleep schedule:
0-6 Months
- Babies this young will sleep a lot – usually around 16-17 hours per day
- Sleep will be fragmented, with naps throughout the day and night waking for feedings
- Consider using a swaddle to help your baby feel secure and comfortable during sleep
6-12 Months
- Babies will still need around 14 hours of sleep per day, with 2-3 naps during the day and one longer stretch of sleep at night
- Try to establish a consistent bedtime routine to help your baby sleep better
- Consider transitioning from a swaddle to a sleep sack or wearable blanket
12-24 Months
- Toddlers need around 12-14 hours of sleep per day, with one nap during the day and a longer stretch of sleep at night
- Continue with a consistent bedtime routine and avoid screens before bedtime to ensure your toddler gets a good night’s sleep
6 Month Baby Food Chart
At 6 months, your little one is ready to start exploring the world of solid foods! Here's a sample food chart to give you an idea of what you can introduce:
Week 1
- Day 1: Rice cereal mixed with breast milk or formula
- Day 2: Apple puree
- Day 3: Sweet potato puree
- Day 4: Carrot puree
- Day 5: Banana puree
- Day 6: Butternut Squash puree
- Day 7: Avocado puree
Week 2
